Congratulations, Lightning Over Little Sugarloaf Lake has been accepted into the "A Fall of Rain" exhibition at the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts. A Fall of Rain... This Call for photography has been juried by Kat Kiernan, Editor-in-Chief of the photography magazine Don’t Take Pictures. "Whether gloomy or relaxing, rainy atmosphere elicits an emotional response. Distorting the world through reflections, splatters, and color shifts, rain can transform our surroundings in ways both magical and disastrous. Spring showers wash away the snow and grime of winter, shifting into summer thunderstorms. From gentle drizzle to treacherous hurricanes and monsoons, we look for photographs in all mediums that explore the regenerative and destructive powers of precipitation." Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts 118 N Main St, Providence, RI 02903 Reception: August 19th 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. In the Gallery: August 19th - September 10th Gallery Hours: Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays 12:00 – 6:00 pm.

Artist's Description

When the lightning strikes started getting closer I opened the window and started taking long exposures, starting over after each significant lightning strike. When the heavy rain got close I used an umbrella to shield the camera while my feet got wet. By the time the real heavy rain arrived I was prepared with several towels to soak up the incoming water and a plastic cover over the camera (the metal tipped umbrella started to look like a bad idea).

About William Christiansen

William Christiansen

Wm Christiansen Photography is about the work and play of Bill and Deb Christiansen. Bill is a photographer, author, and mansplainer. Deb is a publisher, documenter, and rhetorical question asker. Bill was born and raised in Southwest Michigan and has lived in the Schoolcraft area since he married his beautiful wife Deb fifteen years ago. He fully invested in his photography passion with the time (and money) that came with retirement after a forty-year career with The Upjohn Company and successor companies, including Pfizer. Whether photographing in the area or when he and Deb travel, Bill seeks out interesting locations and plans the images he expects to capture, but the unexpected shots that find his lens often provide the most...
