Description
Located at 225 Parsons Street, the aging smokestack with "GIBSON" proudly spelled out in vertical letters was a historical reminder of the iconic Gibson Guitar’s Kalamazoo roots. The smokestack starts inside the building and rose about 70 feet from the rooftop. The “DOCK #1” sign, hanging by a single fastener, shows the building brick before it was painted. Worried that the smokestack was unstable and could fall, it was was slated for demolition but was saved by concerned citizens and guitar lovers. The top 30 feet of the stack was carefully removed brick by brick. Those bricks are being stored until a campaign to fund the preservation and reconstruction is completed.
